Background & Bios

The Yahara String Quartet has a wide range of experiences. We've performed at some of the most
elegant locations in the area for weddings, receptions, and parties. We've also been seen
performing at the Roxbury Tavern and at JT Whitney's Brewpub.


We perform a wide variety of repertoire, including classical, jazz, and ragtime.
Because of our range of experience and repertoire, we are able to customize
your event to your personal taste and style.

Lynne Wymore, violin, lives in Madison, and teaches Orchestra classes in the Middleton-Cross Plains Schools. She has played violin since she was 10 years old, and has a degree in Music Education from the University of Iowa. She has played in many orchestras and chamber ensembles in Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. She is currently a member of the Edgewood Chamber Orchestra, and also plays solos, and in small groups, for area churches.
Phila Poff, violoncello, is a Madison native graduating from West High and the University of Wisconsin. She has played chamber music for many years. She started cello when she was 6 years old and played in the Madison Symphony for 45 years. She has also played many chorale works, musicals, opera and ballet. Phila has enjoyed teaching many budding young cello students through the years.
Christine Westphal Thompson, violin, is originally from Middleton, Wisconsin. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison with degrees in Special Education and Music Performance. Beginning violin studies when she was 3 years old, she worked for many years with Marjorie Peters and with Professor Tyrone Greive. Ms. Thompson has performed with the Madison Symphony Orchestra, and is currently a member of the Edgewood Chamber Symphony, is active in church music, and plays bluegrass fiddle with the Oak Street Ramblers. Ms. Thompson is currently a doctoral student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and teaches violin lessons from her home.
Nancy Dunn Kurr, viola, lives in Middleton, and maintains a private string studio at her home. She obtained a degree in Viola Performance from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, where she studied with Sally Chisholm and Jae-Kyung Kim. She also is certified in Early Childhood Education. She teaches adult string instruction through the University of Wisconsin -Continuing Education. She has taught as adjunct string faculty at Edgewood College, and has performed with many orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa. She currently is the Principal Violist in the Edgewood Chamber Orchestra and performs regularly at local church services.
